I thought I’d just post something about the title of my novel The Raven Sound. Titles are fascinating, and the subject reminds me of being in a band in my youth, and the true cliché that you can spend more time deciding on a name than actually playing. True fact, I was once part of a band for just three weeks, availability meaning there wasn’t a single time every single one of us was playing together at the same time. We did however go through about a dozen potential band names.
I never end up using the original name for a novel or novella once it’s been completed, as you can’t really settle on the most important things to include until its finished. I have had half a dozen projects called ‘Glass Onion’ at the outset and ending up as something else. One day I’ll actually get to call something ‘Glass Onion’ I swear.
For simplicity this one started out under the heading ‘The Crow Story’ (still the name of the folder on my PC), but at various times was called ‘Shadows of Corvus’, ‘Shades of A Man’, ‘Three for Sorrow’ and, errr, ‘Branflakes’ (don’t ask). After much debate with myself (I won in the end) it became ‘The Raven Sound’ which just worked for me, and once I had it, I knew that was what I would stick with!
Stay safe,
Kit
