Today’s blog is about the difficulty I’m having in making sure I’m obeying all the correct rules for my YouTube channel. Most of the footage I upload is just me, so there’s no problem there, but some of the clips are occasionally from the past, and recently feature the student film ‘Glass Onion’ which I shot in the 1990s, and which created the plot for Lorelei. Fortunately, my use of the Monkees’ ‘You Just May Be The One’ is covered by really helpful guidanec from Warners, and their agreement with YouTube. Not so, my other enquiry. In the background (on a stereo), there is a Vanessa Paradis track playing, so I thought I’d best see if that was okay. As far as I can tell, Universal own the rights but finding information next to impossible on their website, with the only route I can see (after being bounced between websites) is a huge form requesting a paid for license. The music is a nice to have, as it was on the original, but this is a non commercial vid showing a ‘making of’, and I can esily remove it if I have to. All I need to do is find someone to answer the question of whether I need permission or not! I think I’ve finally come across the right e-mail address (by accident, there didn’t seem to be a direct route) so fingers crossed. I’ll keep you posted.
Stay safe,
Kit
