I’m Back – sort of

Blimey, it’s been a long time hasn’t it? I have no excuse except for laziness and life getting in the way. Looking at the dashboards I’m still getting quite a lot of hits. Though as this doesn’t seem to be converting into sales, does coincide with lots of e-mails offering me marketing and seemingly details insights into my books they clearly haven’t read, and the majority of hits are coming from China, you’ll understand if I’m suspecting AI at play. Having said that, I wish I had access to the same AI algorithms as some of the insights in the phishing e-mails make for some great marketing paragraphs which I’d be happy to steal.

On the writing front I’m afraid I’ve been very very poor recently. I’ve made notes for two new writing projects, faffed around a lot, and managed about 2000 words on my historical novel. I just can’t seem to inspire myself. I think a part of it is the dropoff in sales in recent years, and the relentless necessity for social media posts in order to stay in other people’s feeds. It does impact the enthusiasm for writing when you know all the subsequent hard work necessary after the fun bit (the creating) is over.

Not that you want to hear me whine about the hardships of writing and marketing of course. You just want to read my lovely books and find out what makes me tick (or if you’re a marketing bot, work out how to part me and my money). So, how are you? What’s going on in your life?

I’m settled into my new home, looking after my fish, and still having the occasional wonderful ideas for new stories to tell but that’s part of the problem with me. If anything I have too many ideas, and find it hard to settle on the (next) one to commit to. I’m not really a new year resolution type person but the Christmas break from work might give me the space I need to buckle down. If I can stop playing Hearthstone and Football Manager that is.

On the plus side, I have rediscovered my passion for reading, and throwing myself into a nice mix of biography (Prince), essays (Christopher Hitchins), fantasy (Raymond Feist and Peter Brett), and no doubt lots of lovely treats at xmas.

Stay safe,

Kit xx
