Review: The Missed Kiss – Nicola Lowe

Let me hold my hands up from the beginning and say that I don’t usually read pure romance novels. Not meant as a judgement of the genre in any way, it’s just not my usual preference, so it was always going to be an uphill battle to win me over. The reason I mention this is for other readers who might not think this book is for them based on the blurb alone. I’m not including it because it’s a great romance novel, I’m including it because it’s a great, fun and enjoyable novel whatever your usual tastes might be. Nicola Lowe’s book won me over from the off.

From the first page I was drawn into Lily’s story. I liked her and believed in her character, which was presented with such a wonderful depth that I felt as though I knew her already. Having said that, she’s her own worst enemy at times, and in the real World I think I’d have far less sympathy for someone who acts as she does. But this is the heightened realm of the Romance, so I was rooting for her to find happiness and pick the right man (no spoilers on the outcome here) from the start. The two male leads verge a little on the ‘too perfect’ side for me too, but as this is told from Lily’s perspective and she is in the thrall of loved-up bliss, they might well seem perfect to her and that’s why we don’t hear about their flaws. So I can forgive that perfection and totally blame Lily’s rose-tinted vision for their hunky, devoted, considerate, good-haired, sexually-expert Lawyerness. Hang on a mo, that reads wrong. Let me clarify that their lawyerness is in no way presented as sexually expert. Stream on consciousness reviewing is tricky sometimes, but bear with me.

This story is a total blast. Fast-paced, really well-written, twisting and turning, with a big dollop of sexy spice and humour thrown into the mix, I enjoyed it immensely, and think you will too.

It’s also worth pointing out there is a sequel which I shall be reading very soon to find out what happens next! The fact I need to know what happens indicates how addictive this story is, and should tell you in itself that that is a novel very much worth reading (and I’m on #TeamLuke if you were wondering.)

From the pitch:

Lily loves her life, her job and her two best friends, she does not need romance to come along and mess that up! Nobody is more surprised than she is when after a blind date, she finds herself falling head over heels in love with Zack.

But Zack isn’t the only one with feelings for her. Lily’s heart and body are about to be torn between two very different men, as she tries to find a way to hold on to both of them. Lily hasn’t met ‘The One’, she has met ‘The Two’.

Can she have it all? Or will she be forced to make an impossible decision?
