I love this part of publishing a new book! As a pre-cursor to working on the blurb proper, I’m created a new synopsis and description for my book for by friends at Blush (my designers), created a mood board of possible pictures (one in the header of this – I took it near Hadrian’s Wall if you’re interested) and my initial ideas of what I think my work – colour scheme and potential images.
A bit like the title, I have to remember that the cover design isn’t for me, its for the readers and potential purchasers, but having asaid that it is clearly important to reflect the tone of the book. Creepy is probably my byword, and there is a motif of green, red and black through the text so hopefully the cover will reflect that.
The interesting thing for me, though I can’t share without permission from people I’m not in touch with, is that the story is based on a film I half completed while at University, so I actually have a number of clips/ photos from the original inspiration. They should hopefully help my design eye as they helped the writing.
I’ll update when first otions come back.
Stay safe,
Kit
