Rupert books – Mary Tourtel

Rupert the Bear novels

A slightly different style of influence here. As I’m blogging about my influences, I can’t do anything other than include and have happy thoughts when looking at the ‘Rupert books’. Sitting on my mum’s knee, having these read to me in the early seventies was my introduction to stories, and then learning to read with them on my own sparked my love of reading. I was so excited whenever we got a new (Woolies edition) of the Rupert Little Bear Library story, and if I try and think back to what started my love of literature, it was this wonderful little bear. No great insight into the quality of the stories from me, I just needed to mention them and pass on my experience that there is nothing better than reading to a child and learning to read yourself.
