Sunday Update

Its been a strange month here at Derrick Towers. To be honest it’s been a bit of a crappy one, and from one of my days out here’s a stuck in the mud photos that sums me up quite nicely. And if anyone finds my Mojo, I appear to have lost it. But I’ll restrict myself to matters literary.

The launch of tEXt me has been an abject failure, which is frustrating, but also the way of things. I think it’s my best-written novel yet, the most accessible with the most likeable characters, but you just can’t predict success of failure, and it’s only had a fraction of the downloads and purchases of the others. It might be the (highly competitive) genre of romance, or my inability to create a suitably enticing pitch, or lack of success in finding reviewers, but that’s what happened. Quite deflating, so I may have to do a free download soon, try and get some reviewers to spread the word.

As I’m never going to stop writing, the first complete draft of the next book is now complete, but I’m breaking to work on a non-fiction (mainly) memoir about caring for my mum when she suffered from dementia, and thinking of collating two sets of short stories, so that’s keeping me busy.

A week off work hasn’t rejuvenated me as hoped, and trips away have been cancelled (except one that resulted in the photo above) but maybe throwing myself into this will spark a resurgence. Hope you’re well!

Stay safe
