Writing 8

Wow, a lot has happened in the World of my novel! I’ve passed 42k words, lots of plot strands have fixed themselves, the entire story is mapped out, much wine, a couple of awkward sex scenes, Di and Alex now play a role and so does Mick Hucknall (sort of).

One of my favourite things has happened though. A scene I added in originally as filler, to separate two existing events, has become probably the most central chapter of the book! It’s the best feeling in the World when the characters take over, and all the threads I didn’t know I’d been leaving come together. Even better, I had a whim early on that I wanted Tiffany dancing happily in her back garden in the rain in the dark, and it happened organically. She literally ended the scene I was writing with the back door open, actually using the rain to put out her little bonfire of things she’d just written and I was going to end there when I remembered. And mis-googling a song title for the lyrics (you’ll see when you read it, no spoilers) created the absolutely perfect reason for the following bit. I’m so chuffed.

At the end her daughter is also now 17, which allows me to set up a brilliant finish which ties everything up so well, and that too was no-where in the original plan (she didn’t even have a kid).

Might be a few days till another post as I’ll be away, but excited to come back to this. First half ready for an alpha read (almost).

Stay safe,

Kit
